Biography
Kemp Strickler is a Democratic member of the Missouri House of Representatives, representing District 34 in Jackson County, which covers parts of Lee's Summit. First elected in 2022 by a narrow margin of fewer than 50 votes over his Republican challenger, he was serving as incumbent in the 2024 election and focuses on issues like fully funding public education , supporting abortion rights, equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community, and introducing a resolution for voters to amend the state constitution allowing Kansas City, St. Louis, and counties to regulate firearms. Notable committee roles include ranking member of the tax reform committee and service on property tax reform, insurance policy, and higher education committees.
Education and Political Experience
- Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, with lifelong residence in the metro area.
- Earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in industrial engineering, plus an MBA, from the University of Missouri-Columbia; lifetime advocate for the university, serving on the Industrial Engineering Hall of Fame Board and Marketing Department Advisory Board, inducted into the Industrial Engineering Hall of Fame, and recipient of the Citation of Merit from Trulaske College of Business.
