Biography
Keith Wagoner is a Republican State Senator representing Washington's 39th Legislative District, which spans parts of Skagit and Snohomish counties. A retired U.S. Navy Commander and naval aviator, he grew up on a goat farm in Alger, Washington, and was unanimously selected to the Senate on January 3, 2018. Prior to the Senate, he served as mayor of Sedro-Woolley for two years and on the city council for five years after retiring to Skagit County in 2007. He currently holds the position of Republican Whip. Notable achievements include prime-sponsoring legislation like Senate Bill 6046 to establish the Washington Division of the Civil Air Patrol as an official branch of the state Military Department, enhancing emergency response capabilities.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Burlington-Edison High School ; attended Washington State University; Bachelor of Science in physical oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy .
- Military Experience: Commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps, transferred to Navy flight training, earned Wings of Gold , flew CH-53E Super Stallion and CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters for 23 years; stationed in locations including Sicily, Okinawa, Guam, Seoul, and Tokyo.
- Political Experience: Sedro-Woolley City Council ; Mayor of Sedro-Woolley ; Washington State Senate, 39th District , Republican Whip.
