Biography
Keith P. Brown is an American politician and a Republican/Conservative/Independence member of the New York State Assembly, representing District 12 in Suffolk County, which includes portions of the towns of Babylon, Huntington, and Islip. A Northport native, business owner, attorney, and father of three, he assumed office on January 20, 2021, after winning a special election on November 3, 2020. Notable achievements include being voted one of the most bipartisan members of the Assembly for two consecutive years, securing over $1 million in grant funding, championing the Environmental Bond Act, co-authoring papers on sewer infrastructure needs, and sponsoring legislation to increase penalties for assaulting elected officials. He focuses on lowering taxes, supporting small businesses, repealing bail reform, enhancing community safety, and improving water and sewer infrastructure for a cleaner Long Island Sound.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from SUNY Albany; earned his law degree from Touro College Law Center, where he serves on the Advisory Board for the Institute on Land Use and Sustainable Development Law.
- Political Experience: Interned with former New York State Senator Norman J. Levy; served as Assistant Attorney General in the New York State Office of the Attorney General's Litigation Bureau; partner in Certilman Balin LLP's Real Estate and Land Use & Zoning Practice Groups, representing clients in complex zoning and land-use matters; founded his own law firm; elected to the New York State Assembly in 2020 and re-elected since, with a family background in law enforcement informing his push for judicial discretion and police support.
