Biography
Kay Ivey is a Republican who has served as the 54th Governor of Alabama since April 10, 2017, after ascending from Lieutenant Governor following the resignation of her predecessor. She won full terms in the 2018 and 2022 elections, becoming the first Lieutenant Governor elected to a full gubernatorial term after filling a vacancy. Born on October 15, 1944, in Camden, Alabama, she grew up working on her father's farm, which instilled values of hard work, faith, family, and community. Notable achievements include being the first Republican State Treasurer since Reconstruction , the first Republican woman Lieutenant Governor , and recipient of awards such as the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronauts Public Service Award and Newsmax's 50 Most Influential Female Republicans. As Lieutenant Governor, she led the Commission on Improving State Government, contributing to $1 billion in state savings by 2013. She is an active member of First Baptist Church of Montgomery, Montgomery Rotary Club, and Montgomery YMCA Board, and the first Girls State alumnus elected to Alabama constitutional office.
