Biography

Kay J. Christofferson is an American politician and a Republican member of the Utah House of Representatives representing District 53. He was born in Lehi, Utah, and currently resides in Lehi. Christofferson is married and has seven children. Professionally, he works as a civil engineer. His career experience includes employment with Horrocks Engineers and Christofferson Engineering, as well as work with the Utah Department of Transportation, the Utah Transit Authority, the Department of Environmental Quality, the Division of Facilities Construction and Management, and several other state agencies.

Education

Christofferson earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Brigham Young University in 1982.

Political Experience

Christofferson was first elected to the Utah House of Representatives in 2012. He won the Republican primary with 58.8% of the vote and secured the general election with 87.5% of the vote. In 2014, he ran unopposed in both the Republican convention and the general election. Records indicate he assumed office for District 53 on January 1, 2023, and his current term is scheduled to end on January 1, 2027. He is running for re-election in 2026.

Throughout his legislative career, Christofferson has served on multiple committees. During the 2023-2024 session, he was assigned to the House Revenue and Taxation Committee and the Transportation Committee. He served as Chair of the Transportation Committee during the 2019-2020 and 2021-2022 sessions and as Vice Chair in 2017. His previous committee assignments include the Public Utilities, Energy, and Technology Committee and the Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Committee. In the 2016 legislative session, he served on the Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environmental Quality Appropriations Subcommittee. He has sponsored legislation concerning transportation, public lands, child welfare services, and teacher salary supplements.
