Biography
Katie Wallace is a Democratic State Senator representing Colorado Senate District 17, which includes Longmont, Lafayette, Erie, and parts of Boulder and Weld counties. Raised in Lafayette and now residing in Longmont, she was appointed in March 2025 by a Democratic vacancy committee to replace Sen. Sonya Jaquez Lewis, securing nearly 60% of the vote against seven competitors; she holds the seat until 2026 and must run for reelection to complete the term. Her priorities include affordable housing, environmental protection, workers' rights, livable wages, healthcare access, combating the climate crisis, and addressing TABOR's impacts.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of Front Range Community College in Longmont and the University of Colorado Boulder.
- Political Experience: Spent 13 years in political organizing, including work on Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns as a community organizer in Lafayette and Erie. Served three years as a legislative aide for then-Rep. Mike Foote in the Colorado State House. Led policy on healthcare, housing, and women’s rights for U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse; worked on policy for U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo; managed campaigns for State House Rep. Jonathan Singer and County Commissioner Deb Gardner. Vice Chair of Boulder County Democrats and board member of Longmont Area Dems.
