Katie Stewart is a fourth-generation Durangoan whose family has deep roots in Southwest Colorado. She resides in the same multigenerational family home in Durango where her mother and grandmother were raised. She is married to Dan and together they raise five children.

Early in her career, Stewart worked as an Emergency Medical Technician in Silverton and later volunteered with Durango's EMS. Her career has been focused on serving the Southwest Colorado community and building an understanding of House District 59's unique opportunities and challenges.

Education and Political Experience

Stewart has demonstrated a strong commitment to public education, which she identifies as an important tool for building a better future for Colorado. She currently serves in her second term on the Durango 9-R Board of Education, where she has worked on several key committees to empower both students and educators. Her firsthand experience with Colorado school finance complexities has informed her advocacy for securing adequate support for schools.

Beyond education, Stewart has actively engaged with campaigns at the local, state, and national level, cultivating meaningful connections with stakeholders across the region. As a State Representative, she currently serves on the House Committee on Education. She has sponsored 16 bills during the 2026 Regular Session and represents Colorado House District 59, which includes Archuleta, La Plata, Montezuma, and San Juan counties.
