Katie Fire Thunder is a Democratic member of the Montana House of Representatives, representing District 59. A member of the Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe, she was unanimously appointed by county commissioners in December 2025 to serve as the youngest state legislator in Montana history at age 25.

Born and raised in Bozeman, she has worked as a legal assistant at the Gallatin County Attorney’s Office and co-founded Bozeman Tenants United, a nonprofit advocating for safe and affordable housing.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in Native American studies from Montana State University in 2024.
• Political Experience: Appointed to the Montana House of Representatives for District 59 ; recognized as the youngest legislator in Montana.
