Biography
Katie Brennan is a Democratic Assemblywoman representing Legislative District 32 in New Jersey, which covers Hoboken and parts of Jersey City in Hudson County. She has served in the General Assembly since 2026, succeeding Assembly members John Allen and Jessica Ramirez after winning election with 76% of the vote alongside Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla. A nationally recognized housing policy expert, she has held leadership roles at the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, the Affordable Housing Alliance, the New York State Office of Resilient Homes and Communities, the New York Governor's Office of Storm Recovery , and the City of New York Mayor's Office . Notable achievements include securing the largest influx of funding for affordable housing in New Jersey history, launching the first statewide hospital-housing agency partnership , advocating for tenant protections, reliable public transit, inclusionary zoning, environmental justice, and protections for survivors of sexual assault, and defending Hoboken's rent control law. She currently serves on the Assembly committees for Consumer Affairs, Housing, and Education. A long-time Jersey City resident, she lives there with her husband Travis and is active in community advocacy, including speaking at city council meetings and serving on the board of The Waterfront Project.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Xavier University; earned a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from Rutgers University .
- Political Experience: Elected to New Jersey General Assembly for District 32 in 2026 ; previously worked in state and local housing agencies in New Jersey and New York, challenging Governor Christie to preserve affordable housing protections, and advising housing nonprofits.
