Senator Kathleen Riebe
Kathleen Riebe is an American politician from Salt Lake City, Utah, representing Utah State Senate District 15 as a member of the Democratic Party. She currently serves as Minority Whip, a position she was elected to in January 2023.
Riebe comes from a family with a strong public service tradition, born into a family of law enforcement officers and firefighters. Her career reflects her commitment to community welfare, having worked as a teacher, dump-truck driver, police dispatcher, firefighter, and outdoor educator. She represents District 15, which includes Cottonwood Heights, Midvale, Sandy, and Brighton.
Education
Riebe earned her B.S. in Elementary Education and Sociology from Hofstra University. She furthered her educational qualifications with an M.Ed. in Education Administration from Utah State University and an Educational Technology Endorsement from Southern Utah State University.
Political Experience
Before her Senate tenure, Riebe served on the Utah State Board of Education through 2018, where she contributed significantly to the finance committee's efforts to enhance transparency in school spending. Her Senate career commenced on January 1, 2019.
Her legislative focus centers on education policy, drawing from her extensive background in teaching and education administration. Riebe has earned several honors, including the Legislative Business Champion and the Legislative Advocate for Children Award. She remains actively engaged in her community through town halls, community events, and advocacy initiatives addressing issues impacting children, including economic insecurity, healthcare access, and inclusive culture.
