Biography
Kate Nugent is a Democratic state representative for Vermont's Chittenden-10 district, serving since 2023. She resides in South Burlington and works as executive director of the Winooski Partnership for Prevention, focusing on youth substance use prevention.
Kate Nugent was born in Melrose, Massachusetts, and moved to Yarmouth at age five. She grew up in a middle-class family and has volunteered on political campaigns since high school, including interning for her state representative and working for the state treasurer in college. After earning advanced degrees, she pursued careers in education, environmental nonprofits, and architecture. In 2005, she married a Vermonter and lived in Missoula, Montana, before returning to Vermont in 2008. She served as president of the South Burlington Rotary Club and as a Justice of the Peace . Her interests include hiking, reading history and literature, and community meals. Notable positions include membership on the House Government Operations and Military Affairs Committee.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: BA in International Relations and French from Colgate University; MA in Renaissance and Medieval Women’s Literature from the University of South Carolina.
