Biography
Karl Oliver
Karl Oliver is a Republican representative in the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing District 46. He was born and raised in Winona, Mississippi, where he has maintained deep roots throughout his career. Oliver spent 24 years serving as the coroner for Montgomery County before transitioning to elected office. He is married to Lynn, who works as a teacher at Winona Elementary School.
Education
Oliver received an associate's degree from Northwest Community College in Senatobia, Mississippi.
Political Experience
Oliver first sought elected office in 2006, running in a special election for state senate. He faced five other candidates in that race, including Lydia Graves Chassaniol, who ultimately won the seat.
In 2015, Oliver entered the race for the Mississippi House seat vacated by six-term Representative Billy Howell of Kilmichael. He competed in the Republican primary against Matt Bennett and Shed Hunger IV, defeating Hunger to secure the nomination. In the general election, Oliver defeated Democrat opponent Strachan by more than 1,000 votes, securing his seat in the state house.
Since taking office, Oliver has been appointed to eight committees and served as vice chairman of the Forestry Committee, though this appointment was later rescinded by Speaker Philip Gunn.
