Biography

Karen Irene Mathiak is a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives representing District 82 . A licensed chiropractor with over 30 years in practice in Griffin, Georgia, she is the first doctor of chiropractic to serve in the Georgia General Assembly. Sworn in on January 9, 2017, initially for District 73, she was redistricted to District 82 in 2024. She serves as Chairman of the State Planning & Community Affairs Committee and holds positions including Vice-Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee, Secretary of the Health Committee, and member of Higher Education, Insurance, Interstate Cooperation, Intragovernmental Coordination, and MARTOC committees. Notable achievements include appointment to the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners in 2003 by Governor Sonny Perdue, 12 years as chairperson of the Spalding County Republican Party, chair of the Spalding County Zoning Board, and service on the Spalding County Adoption Society, DFCS Executive Board, Harris Foundation Board, and Griffin Rotary.
