Biography
Representative Karen Anderson
Karen A. Anderson is a Republican member of the North Dakota House of Representatives representing District 19, which includes Grafton. She was first elected in 2022 alongside fellow Republican David Monson, defeating Democratic candidates Jill Hipsher and Lynnell Popowski. She is married to Ron and has two children.
Before her election to the state house in 2023, Anderson served as a Walsh County commissioner and currently holds the position of Vice President of the North Dakota County Commissioners Association. She is a member of the Grafton Assembly of God Church and maintains active involvement in community organizations, including Concerned Women for America of ND, the Walsh County Farm Bureau, the Pregnancy Help Center, Tri-County Domestic Violence services, and the Legion Auxiliary.
Education and Professional Background
Anderson is a licensed hairdresser, having attended Hair Designers Academy for her professional training.
Political Experience and Committee Assignments
In the North Dakota House, Anderson serves on three committees: Agriculture and Water Management; Human Services; and Rural Health Transformation. Her legislative voting record reflects a focus on education policy, parental rights, and agricultural interests. She has supported measures including teacher licensure reforms, universal school meals, and school funding initiatives, while also backing parental rights legislation and book policy measures in schools.
