Biography

Kambrell Houston Garvin is a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 77 in Richland County, including Columbia and Blythewood. Born on October 2, 1991, in Columbia, South Carolina, he was raised by a single mother who became a speech therapist to help him overcome a childhood speech impediment diagnosed at age 5. He lives with his wife, Monique, and daughter, Wrenley. An injury attorney, Garvin founded Kambrell Garvin Law Firm, LLC in 2022. Elected at age 26 in 2018 while still in law school, he began his term in January 2019. Notable achievements include serving as Vice Chairman of the Richland County Legislative Delegation, Treasurer of the House Minority Caucus, and Parliamentarian of the SC Legislative Black Caucus. He has advocated for Medicaid expansion, public education reform, student loan debt relief, and economic development in the Midlands. Community affiliations include First Nazareth Baptist Church, Columbia Branch NAACP, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
