Biography

Kamela T. Smith is a Democratic member of the Delaware House of Representatives, representing District 15 . Originally from Philadelphia, she relocated to Delaware over two decades ago for a safer community and better schools for her children. A wife, mother in a blended family, self-published author, and woman of faith, she entered politics after a career in human services, focusing on intellectual disabilities, aging populations, mental health, and community engagement. In a major 2024 upset, she defeated longtime incumbent Speaker Valerie Longhurst in the Democratic primary with Working Families Party endorsement, then won the general election unopposed. She assumed office November 5, 2024, and joined the 153rd General Assembly in 2025.
