Biography
Representative Kadyn Wittman
Kadyn Wittman is a Democratic member of the South Dakota House of Representatives representing District 15, serving since 2023. She is one of eleven Democratic members of the South Dakota Legislature and currently holds the position of Minority Whip.
Raised in Willmar, Minnesota, Wittman moved to Sioux Falls over a decade ago to pursue higher education. Prior to her election to the state legislature, she worked at the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House and served as the Director of Development for Sioux Falls Family YMCA, a position she continues to hold full-time.
Wittman has been actively involved in community advocacy and organizational leadership. She serves as an active board member for *Bridging the Gap *, a Sioux Falls-based organization committed to uplifting underrepresented communities through collaboration and leadership development. She previously served on the Board of Directors for The Transformation Project Advocacy Network for nearly three years, where she worked to support and empower transgender youth and young adults while educating communities about gender identity and expression.
Education
Wittman graduated from Augustana University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Women's Studies.
Political Experience
Wittman was first elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives in November 2022, winning election alongside fellow Democrat Linda Duba to represent District 15. She was re-elected in 2024, serving with Eric Muckey.
Since her election, Wittman has received significant recognition for her policy work. She was awarded a year-long Youth Homelessness Fellowship through the National Council of State Legislators, designed to provide educational support on the causes and consequences of youth homelessness and potential policy solutions. In summer 2023, she was accepted into a Bush Foundation Change Network cohort, a year-long study program focused on building networks and developing skills to make communities more accessible and welcoming.
Her current legislative priorities include expanding access to free school lunches for students and advancing criminal justice policy reform, following her appointment to the Governor's Task Force on Correctional Rehabilitation.
