Justin Pope is a Democratic State Senator representing Mississippi Senate District 24, which encompasses portions of Tallahatchie, Panola, and Leflore counties. A native of Batesville, Mississippi, Pope was elected to the state Senate in a December 2, 2025 runoff election, defeating Curressia Brown with 54% of the vote. Political Experience

Pope currently serves as a corporate deputy with Progressive Health Group, where he works in healthcare administration. Prior to his election to the state Senate, he ran unsuccessfully for Panola County Chancery Clerk in 2023 as a Democrat, losing to Independent candidate Katie Ragon.

As Senator-elect and now seated member, Pope has advocated for several key policy areas:

  • Healthcare improvements and better health outcomes for his district
  • Enhanced educational opportunities, including support for trade schools and vocational training
  • Mental health services and support
  • Law enforcement budget increases
  • Economic and workforce development to retain residents in District 24
  • Greater accountability, responsibility, and transparency in government

Pope emphasizes pragmatic approaches to education, noting that college is not the appropriate path for everyone and highlighting the importance of career alternatives through trade schools and vocational programs.
