Biography
Junie Joseph , Colorado House District 10
Junie Joseph is a Democratic state representative for House District 10 in Colorado, encompassing most of the City of Boulder and part of Gunbarrel. She is the first Black woman, Millennial, and immigrant to serve in this role, appointed in August 2022 and elected in November 2022, now in her second term as Majority Caucus Co-Chair. Notable achievements include passing 36 bills in her first term on gun violence prevention, criminal justice reform, bilingual accessibility, property tax relief, and wildfire-resilient housing funds; she also served as 2024 Speaker and vice chair of the House Finance Committee, with current roles on Energy & Environment and Appropriations Committees.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Joseph immigrated to the United States at age 14. She previously worked as a human rights officer for the United Nations in the Central African Republic, a global law and development fellow on a USAID project in Côte D’Ivoire promoting disability rights, and in human rights roles with the UN in Geneva and South Africa. A family law attorney who owns her own practice, she is the only renter among recent Democratic primary candidates and advocates for socio-economic diversity, equity, and justice. She served as Boulder City Council member and Mayor Pro Tem, balancing law school, council duties, and public service.
