Biography

Julie VanOrden is a Republican Idaho State Senator representing District 30 since December 1, 2022. She previously served as an Idaho State Representative for District 31 Seat B from 2012 to 2018, where she chaired the Education Committee. Before entering politics, she co-owned Garth VanOrden Farms, an agribusiness since 1982, and has held roles such as chair of the Snake River School District Board of Trustees, commissioner on the Idaho Public Charter School Commission, and member of the Idaho Potato Commission. Notable achievements include her leadership in education policy and committee service on Finance, Health and Welfare, and Economic Outlook and Revenue Assessment. She was defeated in the 2018 primary by Julianne Young amid debates over updating Idaho's sex education laws.
