Biography
Julie A. Casimiro is a Democratic member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 31 . She was first elected on November 8, 2016, and took office on January 3, 2017. Named Deputy Majority Leader in January 2019, she holds key leadership roles including first vice chair of the House Oversight Committee and serves on committees such as Health, Education and Welfare; Education; Judiciary; Veterans' Affairs; Small Business; and Rules. Notable achievements include sponsoring laws banning child marriages , requiring school policies on personal electronics , protecting against cryptocurrency ATM scams , and mandating reports on foster care youth academic progress . She received the 2023 Tides Family Services Humanitarian Award for advancing children's behavioral health services, the 2021 Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute Angels in Adoption honor, and serves as vice chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures Standing Committee on Children, Families and Human Services.
