Julie Brixie

Julie Brixie is a Democratic state representative from Michigan's 73rd House District, representing the Okemos area and surrounding communities in Ingham County. Born on May 7, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois, she has built a career centered on environmental science and public service. Brixie is married to Randy Schaetzl and has three children: Madeline, Annika, and Heidi.

Before entering electoral politics, Brixie worked as an environmental professional for over a decade, conducting investigations and cleanups of contaminated sites throughout Michigan. She began her public service career in Meridian Township, where she served as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Commission before being elected to the township board.

Education

Brixie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Geography from the University of Illinois and a Master's degree in Crop and Soil Sciences with a specialization in Environmental Toxicology from Michigan State University .

Political Experience

Local Service: Brixie served Meridian Township in multiple capacities, including 8 years as trustee and 10 years as treasurer . During her tenure as treasurer, she guided Meridian through the Great Recession and helped establish strong financial practices for the community.

State Representative: First elected in 2018, Brixie has served in the Michigan House of Representatives since January 2, 2019. She currently serves on several appropriations subcommittees, including those on Agriculture and Rural Development, Natural Resources, Judiciary, and Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. She is also a member of the Economic Competitiveness Committee and the Tax Policy Committee.

Community Involvement: Beyond her political roles, Brixie is active in community organizations, including the Rotary Club of Haslett-Okemos and the Michigan Recycling Coalition.
