Biography

Julia Kirt

Julia Kirt was born on October 7, 1973, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is a Democratic politician who has represented District 30 in the Oklahoma State Senate since 2018. District 30 encompasses parts of northwest Oklahoma City, Bethany, and Warr Acres.

Before her election to the state senate, Kirt spent nearly 20 years leading statewide arts and culture nonprofit organizations. Her work in this field earned her a Governor's Arts Award for her leadership of Oklahomans for the Arts and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.

Education

Kirt holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Macalester College and a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of Oklahoma.

Political Experience

Since her election in 2018, Kirt has served two terms in the Oklahoma State Senate. In 2024, she was elected Minority Leader of the Oklahoma Senate, a significant leadership position within the chamber.

Throughout her legislative career, Kirt has focused on several key policy areas. She served as a founding member and Co-Chair of the Legislative Mental Health Caucus, helping lead improvements in access to mental health treatment. She also served as Co-chair of the Waiting List Caucus, which works to connect families, service providers, and lawmakers to strengthen disability services. Currently, Kirt serves as Co-chair of the Rethinking Subminimal Wages for Persons with Disabilities Task Force.
