Biography
Julia Erin Coleman is a Republican member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 48, which covers communities in the eastern portion of Carver County and parts of the southwestern Twin Cities metropolitan area, including Chanhassen and Waconia. Elected in 2020 as the youngest woman ever elected to the Minnesota Senate at age 28, she was re-elected in 2022 and currently serves her second term as Assistant Minority Leader and Republican lead on the Education Policy Committee. Prior to the Senate, she served on the Chanhassen City Council starting in 2018. She is married to Jacob Coleman, with three children, and resides in Chanhassen; she is the daughter-in-law of former U.S. Senator Norm Coleman. Notable achievements include authoring bipartisan bills for students, working mothers, children, and public safety, as well as securing tens of millions in funding for district infrastructure and roadways.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: B.A. in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities . During college, she served as Student Body Representative to the Board of Regents, interned in the Governor's Office and Minnesota State Senate, and won scholarships as Miss Minneapolis, remaining involved with the Miss America Organization.
- Political Experience: Public relations manager for Minnesota’s medical device industry before entering politics; Chanhassen City Council ; Minnesota Senate District 48 , replacing Scott Jensen; current roles include Assistant Republican Caucus/Minority Leader, lead on Education Policy Committee, and member of Rules and Administration, Housing and Homelessness Prevention committees. Now a homemaker and small business owner.
