Biography
Representative Judd Lawler
Judd Lawler is a Republican member of the Iowa House of Representatives representing District 91, which includes his hometown of Tiffin in Johnson County. Born in 1972 in Iowa, Lawler grew up in a family of educators and attended school in the H-L-V Community School District. He has worked as a stay-at-home dad, an experience he credits with giving him a unique perspective on the challenges faced by families in Iowa.
Education
Lawler earned a bachelor's degree in history from Yale University and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. His legal training and educational background have shaped his approach to public service.
Political Experience
Lawler announced his candidacy for the Iowa House in November 2023 and was endorsed by retiring legislator Brad Sherman in the 2024 Republican primary for District 91. He defeated Williamsburg mayor Adam Grier in the primary and subsequently won the general election against Jay Gorsh. He assumed office on January 13, 2025.
Currently, Lawler serves on several standing committees, including Appropriations, Commerce, Government Oversight, and Judiciary, where he holds the position of Vice Chair. He is also a member of the Justice System Appropriations Subcommittee. Before his election to the legislature, Lawler worked as a retired attorney, including service as a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Iowa, and currently works as a self-employed teacher, speaker, and writer.
