Biography
Juandalynn Deleathia "Lee Lee" Givan is a Democratic member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 60 in Jefferson County, including parts of Birmingham. A seasoned attorney, business owner of Givan & Associates Law Firm and That Girl Inc., and community advocate, she has focused her legislative work on crime reduction, economic development, education, affordable housing, public safety, and racial equity. Notable achievements include earning Freshman Legislator of the Year in her first term, securing re-election in 2018 with 76.5% of the vote , and serving as *National President of the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women * in 2021. She has sponsored bills on postpartum depression education, municipal firearm regulations, expungement fees, and highlighted racial disparities in marijuana laws; she also advocated for investigations into policing in Brookside, Alabama. Givan ran unsuccessfully for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District in the 2024 Democratic primary and announced a candidacy for Mayor of Birmingham in January 2025.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Miles College and a Juris Doctor from Miles Law School .
- Early Career: Born and raised in Birmingham to Leroy and Patricia Givan; worked as an administrative cabinet member for Mayor Richard Arrington Jr. on capital projects and development, and as a HOPE VI coordinator with the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Alabama House in 2010, re-elected multiple times ; serves on the Constitution, Campaigns and Elections Committee, Fiscal Responsibility Committee, and Jefferson County Legislation Committee. Recognized by NAACP, Alpha Kappa Alpha, The Links Incorporated, and UNCF.
