Biography

Juan Carlos Vargas, born on March 7, 1961, in National City, California, is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving California's 52nd Congressional District. Raised on a chicken ranch as one of ten children to Mexican immigrant parents, Tomas and Celina Vargas, he learned the value of hard work early in life. His father immigrated to the United States in the late 1940s through the Bracero Program, and his mother later earned U.S. citizenship.

Vargas's political career began on the San Diego City Council , where he initiated "Operation Restore," employing homeless individuals to revitalize neighborhoods. He then served in the California State Assembly and the State Senate . In 2012, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for California's 51st District and, following redistricting, now represents the 52nd District.
