Biography
Joyce Lucille Davis Waddell is a Democratic member of the North Carolina Senate representing District 40 since 2015. A tireless advocate for community empowerment, she has championed policies supporting education, healthcare, housing, women, children, and families. Notable achievements include her service on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education, leadership as a school system administrator, and civic involvement with organizations like the National Council of Negro Women, Democratic Women, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She serves on key committees such as Appropriations/Base Budget, Finance, Health Care, Pensions and Retirement and Aging, and Rules and Operations of the Senate.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of South Carolina State University; master's degrees from UNC Charlotte, North Carolina A&T State University, and Appalachian State University; Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
