Biography
Josiah Magnuson is a Republican representative serving District 38 in the South Carolina House of Representatives, covering Spartanburg County. Born on August 17, 1991, in Greenville, South Carolina, he is the son of Roy G. and Valerie J. Magnuson and married LeeAnn Gahagan on April 22, 2019. A businessman, he serves as President of Clarity Business & Marketing, LLC, and International Consultant for Palmetto Fortis Education Group. Notable achievements include leading efforts in 2007 to pass legislation banning South Carolina's implementation of the Federal REAL-ID Act, standing with Governor Mark Sanford at the signing; directing Americans for Constitutional Government ; authoring Biblical Civics: A Twelve-Week Study on God and Government; and founding Soldiers of Biblical Reformation in 2007. He has advocated for issues like illegal immigration, border security, sound money, rejection of Obamacare, personhood for the unborn, and traditional marriage. Currently, he serves on the Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs Committee and is a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Homeschooled through his sophomore year, graduated from Kingsway Christian School in Orrville, Ohio, in 2010; studied for two years at Oak Brook College of Law ; trained in electrical work and worked in solar energy sales and project management.
Political Experience: Elected to the South Carolina House in 2016, serving continuously since 2017 ; Board member, Republican Liberty Caucus of South Carolina ; Member, Constitution Study Group of Spartanburg ; Board member, Hope Remains Ranch ; Assistant Scoutmaster, BSA Troop 73 ; Homeschool History & Science Tutor ; taught classes on science, American History, and the U.S. Constitution.
