Biography
Josiah Hill
Josiah Hill was born on December 15, 1976, and is an American politician currently serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives. A member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party *, Hill represents *District 33B in the eastern Twin Cities metropolitan area, which encompasses the cities of Stillwater, Forest Lake, and Bayport, as well as parts of Washington County. He resides in Stillwater, Minnesota, with his spouse Emily and three children.
Hill's political platform emphasizes environmental protection, expanded school funding, healthcare expansion, and racial equity. In 2023, he authored legislation supporting the decommissioning of a coal power plant in Oak Park Heights as part of Xcel Energy's transition to renewable energy sources.
Education
Hill holds multiple degrees from respected institutions. He earned both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin, and a *Doctor of Education * from Hamline University.
Political Experience
Hill was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2022, assuming office on January 3, 2023. He succeeded two-term DFL incumbent Shelly Christensen, who retired from the position. Prior to his House election, Hill ran for the Minnesota Senate in 2020 but lost to two-term Republican incumbent Karin Housley.
In the House, Hill serves as vice chair of the Education Policy Committee and holds membership on the Labor and Industry Finance and Policy Committee and the Education Finance Committee. He also serves on the House Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs Division.
