Biography

Josh Hoover is a Republican member of the California State Assembly representing District 7, which covers Sacramento County areas including Citrus Heights, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Fair Oaks, and surrounding communities like Carmichael and Gold River. He first assumed office on December 5, 2022, after defeating incumbent Democrat Ken Cooley, and was reelected to a second term on November 5, 2024, with 53.6% of the vote. A passionate advocate for families, Hoover prioritizes education reform, school choice, public safety, and affordability; notable achievements include authoring the Phone-Free Schools Act to boost student performance and mental health, and leading efforts to reopen schools as the first Sacramento County district during the pandemic. His political career includes 11 years as a legislative aide, serving as Chief of Staff for Assemblymember Kevin Kiley, and election to the Folsom Cordova Unified School District Board, where he balanced budgets, expanded mental health services, supported school police, and improved student outcomes. In January 2022, he launched his campaign for the newly drawn 7th Assembly District. He resides with his wife and three children, one of whom is on the autism spectrum.
