Joshua M. Hall was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. While attending Hartford Public High School, he and his friends made a pledge to return and serve their community—a commitment that was later chronicled in the book "House of Good Hope."

Hall brings over 25 years of public school teaching experience to his role in state government. He spent the majority of his teaching career at Weaver High School in Hartford Public Schools, where he taught History. During his teaching career, he received the Apple Teacher Award and was selected by the World Affairs Council to travel to South Africa.

Hall earned his undergraduate degree in History Education from Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia, where he competed on NSU's Honda Campus All-Star Challenge Team. He later obtained a Master's degree in Education Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.

Political Experience

After 12 years of classroom teaching, Hall was elected by his colleagues to serve as First Vice President of the Hartford Federation of Teachers, a position he held for 12 years while advocating for Hartford's educators. During this time, he was elected to the executive board of the American Federation of Teachers Connecticut and served as Treasurer of the Connecticut Democratic Party.

In 2017, Hall was elected as state representative for the 7th Assembly District in Hartford. In 2021, he returned to Weaver High School as Assistant Principal while continuing his legislative duties. Hall has held several leadership positions within the Connecticut House of Representatives, including Assistant Democratic Leader and Deputy Speaker. His legislative priorities focus on neighborhood community schools, neighborhood revitalization, safe neighborhoods, and job and retirement security. Hall has been recognized by organizations including 100 Men of Color and the Connecticut NAACP as one of the state's most influential African Americans.
