Biography

Josh Turek is a Democratic State Representative for District 20 in the Iowa House of Representatives. Born April 12, 1979, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with spina bifida due to his father's exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam, he overcame 21 surgeries by age 12 to become a two-time Paralympic gold medalist for Team USA in wheelchair basketball, competing in four Paralympics, including gold in Tokyo 2021. He represents the reddest district held by a Democrat in Iowa, first winning by six votes in a Trump-won seat, then re-elected by five points. Turek is known as a bipartisan legislator focused on middle-class economic policies, public education , healthcare reform, and environmental protection. He holds athletic hall of fame inductions from Abraham Lincoln High School, Southwest Minnesota State University, and the National Wheelchair Basketball Association.
