Biography
Josh Lowenthal is a Democrat representing California's 69th Assembly District, which includes parts of Los Angeles County centered in Long Beach and Signal Hill. A business executive and entrepreneur in tech and telecom startups, he was first elected to the State Assembly in 2022 after an unsuccessful 2018 run, defeating Republican Al Austin with 68.4% of the vote; he won reelection in 2024 with the same margin. Son of former Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal and retired U.S. Rep. Alan Lowenthal, he has worked as a teacher, owned local restaurants and a conference calling company, and focused on issues like homelessness, at-risk youth, and job creation. He has three daughters in public schools.
Notable positions include Chair of the Select Committee on the Independent Restaurant Industry in California; Member of standing committees on Business and Professions, Communications and Conveyance, Education, and Privacy and Consumer Protection; and Member of select committees on the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Ports and Goods Movement, Racism, Hate, and Xenophobia, Sea Level Rise and the California Economy, and the Nonprofit Sector.
