Josh Hurlbert

Republican Representative, Missouri House District 8

Josh Hurlbert is a Republican state representative from Missouri's House District 8, which encompasses all or part of Smithville, Plattsburg, Kansas City, Lathrop, Lawson, Lake Arrowhead, Gower, Grayson, Trimble, Paradise, Holt, Excelsior Estates, and unincorporated areas in Clay and Clinton counties. He was first elected to the Missouri House in 2020 and has served multiple terms in this position.

Hurlbert is deeply involved in his community, serving as a church elder at The Table: A Christian Fellowship and as a member of the Smithville Rotary Club. His legislative priorities include maintaining low taxes, promoting economic development in the Northland region, opposing abortion, and protecting gun rights. He has also focused on infrastructure improvements, rural broadband expansion, and school choice initiatives. Recently, he sponsored legislation restricting minors' access to social media and has filed bills to expand the MOScholars program, which provides private school scholarships through tax credits to donors.

Hurlbert earned a B.A. from Park University in Parkville in 2008.

Political Experience

Hurlbert's professional background includes significant experience in both public service and political work. He served as Ward 1 Alderman for the City of Smithville from 2018 to 2020 before his election to the state house. Prior to his legislative career, he worked as a Field Manager for U.S. Representative Sam Graves from 2009 to 2021, gaining substantial experience in congressional operations and constituent services.

Currently, he serves as a part-time Scholarship Coordinator for the Herzog Tomorrow Foundation, a role he has held since 2022. Hurlbert has consistently advocated for business-friendly policies and has received endorsements from organizations such as the National Federation of Independent Business Missouri.
