Biography
Josh Heintzeman is a Republican member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 6B in central Minnesota, including the city of Brainerd and parts of Crow Wing County. Born on December 5, 1977, he was first elected in 2014, defeating incumbent John Ward, and has been reelected every two years since, currently in his sixth term. A small-business owner co-owning Up Country Log, a family-run tree service and excavator business in Merrifield with his wife Keri, they have been married for over 23 years and have six children. Heintzeman serves as minority lead on the Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy Committee, and as a member of the Legacy Finance, Ways and Means, and Commerce Finance and Policy Committees; he previously served as assistant minority leader from 2019 to 2020.
Notable achievements include co-chairing the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources, where he advocated for using lottery proceeds on local public works like wastewater treatment plants and supported funding for a National Loon Center in Crosslake. He authored legislation to fund chronic wasting disease testing in live deer, supported deer farm buyouts, and pushed to exempt military pensions from state income taxes.
