Biography
Josh Carnley is a Republican politician representing Alabama Senate District 31, which includes Coffee, Covington, Dale, and Pike counties. Elected on November 8, 2022, he assumed office on November 9, 2022, succeeding retiring Senator Jimmy Holley. Born and raised in the Ino community, he is married to Valerie Presley, with whom he has three children: Presley, Stella, and John Matthew. Carnley owns and operates a working farm producing cotton, peanuts, corn, and beef cattle, and serves as owner and president of SanBuck Insurance with offices in Andalusia, Enterprise, and Troy. He is a deacon at Ino Baptist Church, an active member of the Enterprise Rotary Club, and serves on the ChocPea Yellow River Watershed Authority. In the Senate, he sits on committees including Agriculture, Conservation, & Forestry; Banking & Insurance; County & Municipal Government; Fiscal Responsibility & Economic Development; Judiciary; and Veterans, Military Affairs, & Public Safety. He focuses on supporting rural communities, economic growth, education, and workforce development.
Education and Political Experience
Carnley graduated from Kinston High School in 1997 and earned a degree in Agricultural Science from Auburn University, where he met his wife. Prior to the Senate, he served as Coffee County Commissioner for District 1.
