Joseph F. Underwood

Joseph F. Underwood is a Republican member of the Maine House of Representatives representing House District 5, which encompasses Presque Isle in Aroostook County. He is a retired professional who has served in the state legislature since his initial election in November 2020. Underwood is currently serving his third term in the legislature. He is affiliated with the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club and the Aroostook County Republicans.

Education

Underwood earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Husson University and an Associate's degree in Accounting from Northern Maine Community College.

Political Experience

Underwood was initially elected to the 147th district in the 2020 Maine House of Representatives election and was subsequently redistricted to House District 5 following the 2022 redistricting. He serves on the State and Local Government Committee, which has jurisdiction over state government matters including the Legislature, state property, public purchasing and contracts, state agencies and government organization, state employment, oversight of state officials, county government, municipal and local government, and related administrative matters. During the 2024 election cycle, Underwood ran for reelection against Democratic challenger Kevin Freeman.
