Joseph R. John was born on March 15, 1953 in Chicago. He graduated from Gordon Tech High School before attending Loyola University. After earning his law degree, John joined a private practice where he focused on criminal defense, civil rights litigation, and personal injury. He went on to serve as an Assistant Cook County State's Attorney where he prosecuted felony narcotics and violent crimes. In 1998, John was elected to the Illinois Senate where he served until 2019. During his tenure, he chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee and sponsored legislation on criminal justice reform, healthcare, education, and taxes. He lives in Chicago with his wife and has two grown children.read less
