Biography
Joseph Chaplik is a Republican who represented Arizona's 3rd legislative district in the Arizona House of Representatives. Originally elected in 2020 to the 23rd district after defeating incumbent Republican Jay Lawrence in the primary, he won reelection in 2022 following redistricting. Chaplik served as a founding member and vice chairman of the Arizona Freedom Caucus, chaired the Ethics Committee, and was vice chairman of the Appropriations and Commerce Committees. He ran for House Speaker in 2023 but was not elected, and resigned in early 2026 to pursue a congressional campaign in Arizona's 1st district Republican primary.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a BA from Bowling Green State University in 1993.
- Political Experience: Elected to Arizona House in 2020 with John Kavanagh, defeating Democrat Eric Kurland by over 15,000 votes; reelected in 2022 ; held committee roles in Health and Human Services, and Transportation; active sponsor of conservative legislation supporting small businesses and Arizona values.
