Joseph Barton

Joseph James Barton is an American politician and conservative activist from New Hampshire. He resides at 120 Cottage Street in Littleton, NH. Before entering electoral politics, Barton worked as an engineer at a nuclear power plant and subsequently worked for the U.S. Navy on nuclear submarines at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Barton served as the chairman of the Newmarket Republican Committee. In 2017, he was suspended by the New Hampshire Republican Party for advocating against Kelly Ayotte as a candidate to the United States Senate. He also served as the board chairman of Project Veritas.

Political Experience

Barton is a member of the Republican Party and currently serves as a Representative in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing the Grafton 1st district since 2024.

During his tenure in the legislature, Barton has sponsored several notable bills and resolutions. In 2025, he sponsored a resolution asking the United States Congress to move the border of New Hampshire northward to include Badger's Island, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, the Piscataqua River, Portsmouth Harbor, and Seavey's Island as part of New Hampshire.

Barton is also the prime sponsor of a bill that would permit one-party consent recordings of conversations and telephone calls, which would align New Hampshire's telephone call recording laws with Maine and the majority of other states. He has advocated that secret audio or video recording of politicians would benefit the public through increased accountability and transparency.
