Biography
Jordan J.G. Wright
Jordan J.G. Wright is a Democratic politician from Harlem, New York, representing the 70th District in the New York State Assembly. A lifelong Central Harlem resident, he was elected to the Assembly in 2024 and took his seat in January 2025.
Wright comes from a prominent Harlem political family. He is the son of former Assemblyman Keith L.T. Wright, current Manhattan Democratic Party chairman, and the grandson of former New York Supreme Court Judge Bruce Wright. He is a member of St. Phillip's Episcopal Church and is a longtime fan of the Knicks, Jets, and Yankees.
Education
Wright graduated from Syracuse University in 2017 with a degree in psychology.
Political Experience
Before his election to the Assembly, Wright gained experience through several public service roles:
- Educator: After college, he worked as an educator in multiple Manhattan schools, serving as a mentor to students
- Community Board: He served for several years on his local community board, focusing on affordable housing, healthcare access, and public safety
- Campaign Manager: In 2023, he served as campaign manager for Yusef Salaam's successful New York City Council campaign for the 9th district
- Chief of Staff: Following Salaam's election, Wright served as his chief of staff, focusing on constituent services before resigning to take his Assembly seat
In his 2024 Assembly campaign, Wright received support from Council Member Salaam, outgoing Assembly Member Inez Dickens, Assembly Member Al Taylor, and former Congressman Charles Rangel. He won the June Democratic primary with a plurality of votes and prevailed in the general election. At age 29, he succeeded longtime Assembly Member Inez Dickens in District 70.
