Biography
Jordan Lopez is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 112 in Mecklenburg County since January 2025. At 26 years old, he is the youngest legislator in the North Carolina General Assembly and the first Afro-Latino to serve in this capacity. Notable achievements include his appointment to the Andrea Harris Task Force for Racial Equity by Governor Roy Cooper in 2023, serving as House Democratic Freshman Co-Chair for the 2025-2026 session, and receiving Elevate Lifestyle’s 2023 30 Under 30 “Future Leaders of Charlotte” Award. His legislative priorities focus on enhancing public education, investing in infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities, and protecting democratic processes.
Education and Political Experience
Born and raised in East Charlotte as a product of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Lopez earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master of Public Administration from North Carolina Central University, graduating magna cum laude. Prior to his election, he worked as a policy analyst for "Hometown Strong," a rural initiative under Governor Roy Cooper's administration, and his occupation is listed as consultant. He has served on the Board of Directors for CharlotteEAST, as a member of the Eastland Park stakeholder group, chaired the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s Get-Out-The-Vote Committee, and was a former member of the Charlotte Community Relations Committee appointed by Mayor Lyles.
