Biography of Senator Jonathan Martin

Jonathan Martin is a Republican state senator representing Florida Senate District 33, which encompasses part of Lee County. He was first elected to the Florida Senate in 2022 and was subsequently reelected, with his current term set to expire in 2032.

Martin was born in Cherokee, Iowa, and relocated to Florida in 1986. He is an attorney by profession and resides in Fort Myers with his wife, Amy D'Alessandro Martin, and their three children: Ryker, Reagan, and Rhett.

Education

Martin earned his undergraduate degree from Stetson University, where he also served as President of the Student Government Association. He completed both a B.S. and B.A. from Stetson University in 2004. He subsequently earned his Juris Doctor from Liberty University School of Law in 2007, where he served as Founding Chair of the Honor Council and Founding President of the Federalist Society.

Political Experience and Notable Positions

Martin has held several significant positions in law and public service:

• Prosecutor: Served as an Assistant State Attorney in the 20th Judicial Circuit, including positions in Hendry County , Glades County , and Lee County
• Lee County Republican Party: Chairman since 2014
• College Trustee: Appointed by Governors Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis to serve on the Florida Southwestern State College Board of Trustees
• Bar Association: President of the Hendry-Glades Bar Association
• Senate Committee Leadership: Currently serves as Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee and Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee on Criminal and Civil Justice. He also holds positions on the Appropriations, Banking and Insurance, Rules, and Transportation committees.

Martin is a founding member of the Southwest Florida Federalist Society and has been affiliated with the organization since 2005.
