Biography
Senator Jonathan Lindsey is a Republican representing Michigan's 17th Senate District, which includes Cass, St. Joseph, and Branch counties, and parts of Berrien, Calhoun, Jackson, and Hillsdale counties. Born on December 18, 1984, in Sturgis, Michigan, he resides in Coldwater and is married to Allison Laffer. Lindsey focuses on advancing constitutionally limited government and economic prosperity in Michigan.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Bronson High School; earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Yale University.
- Military Service: Served approximately seven years in the U.S. Army Special Forces , completing infantry training, airborne school, Special Forces Assessment and Selection, and qualification course. Deployed three times in combat ; awarded Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and other honors.
- Professional Experience: After leaving the Army in 2016, worked five years as a communications executive promoting tobacco harm reduction, emphasizing support for veterans.
- Political Career: Elected to Michigan Senate District 17 on November 8, 2022; sworn in January 11, 2023. Serves on committees including Economic and Community Development, Housing and Human Services , Oversight, and Veterans and Emergency Services. In second session as of 2026.
