Biography
Jonathan Cooper is a Democratic representative for Bennington-1 in the Vermont House of Representatives, serving the towns of Pownal, Readsboro, Searsburg, Stamford, and Woodford. A regional planner and program manager at the Bennington County Regional Commission, he focuses on rural economic development, tax relief for residents, public resources for rural towns, and economic opportunities for businesses. Elected in November 2024 in a close race decided by the House in February 2025, he assumed office on January 8, 2025. Notable roles include serving on the House Committee on Commerce and Economic Development and as Board Chair of the Sunrise Family Resource Center; he also serves on the Southern Vermont Economic Development Zone board. Raised in Needham, Massachusetts, where he earned Eagle Scout rank in 1998, Cooper moved to Pownal, Vermont, in 2016 with his wife Kate and their family.
