Jon Hansen is a Republican representative for South Dakota's 25th Legislative District in the South Dakota House of Representatives, which includes towns and rural areas surrounding Baltic, Colton, Dell Rapids, Garretson, Lyons, Rowena, Sherman, Split Rock Township, Valley Springs, eastern Sioux Falls, and parts of Moody County, Hanson, and McCook counties. Born in 1985 or 1986 in Yankton, South Dakota, he is a fifth-generation South Dakotan from Dell Rapids, married to his high school sweetheart Sheila, and father of six children: William, Garret, Lily, Jude, Hope, and Samuel. A steadfast conservative, Hansen advocates for low taxes, protection of life, family farms, religious liberty, Second Amendment rights, educational choice, and government transparency; he co-founded the Life Defense Fund, raising over $1 million to oppose abortion measures, and has opposed eminent domain abuses related to projects like the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline. Notable achievements include receiving the Americans for Prosperity Torchbearer Award and the American Conservative Union's Award for Conservative Achievement in 2019. He currently serves as Speaker of the House, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and a member of the House State Affairs and Legislative Procedure Committees; previously, he was Speaker Pro Tempore and Majority Whip. Hansen is running for Governor of South Dakota with Karla Lems as his running mate.
