Biography
Jon G. Burns
Jon G. Burns was born on September 4, 1952, in Effingham County, Georgia. He grew up on his family farm, which has been in his family for four and five generations. Burns comes from a family with a strong tradition of public service—his mother was devoted to helping others, and his father served on the school board and county commission. These values of hard work, community involvement, and "neighbor helping neighbor" have guided Burns throughout his life and career.
Burns is a husband, father, and grandfather. He resides in Newington, Georgia, and represents House District 159, which includes Screven County and parts of Effingham and Bulloch Counties.
Political Experience
Burns is a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives. He was first elected to the House in 2004 and has since become one of Georgia's most prominent legislative leaders.
Current Position: Burns serves as Georgia's 75th Speaker of the House of Representatives, a position he has held since January 2023. As Speaker, he serves as the House's chief administrative officer, presides over House floor sessions, assigns bills to committees, and calls matters before the House for debate.

Burns has also worked closely with multiple governors, including Sonny Perdue, Nathan Deal, and Brian P. Kemp, and takes particular pride in Georgia's economic progress during these administrations.
