Biography
Jon D. Brien is an Independent member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 49 . Born on November 21, 1970, he was elected in November 2022 and re-elected in November 2024. He previously served District 50 from 2007 to 2012 as a Democrat. Brien is an attorney with Brien Law Group Inc. and resides in Woonsocket with his wife, Nicole Bourget Brien, and their four children: Kristen, Chad, Juliana, and Gabriella.
Notable achievements include sponsoring a 2025 law protecting access to the federal 340B discount program for safety-net hospitals and clinics, the 2024 Transparency in Arts Education Access and Proficiency Act requiring arts education reports in schools, and serving as the chief architect of Rhode Island’s 2012 Voter ID Law. He currently serves on the House Labor, House Oversight, and House State Government and Elections Committees. Previously, he was vice president of the Woonsocket City Council , chair of the House Municipal Government Committee, and involved with the American Legislative Exchange Council as Public Sector Chair for its Task Force on Process and Procedures and ALEC State Chair for Rhode Island.

- Education: Bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island; Juris Doctor from New York Law School ; Master of Business Administration from Suffolk University . Member of the Rhode Island Bar Association and New York Bar Association.
- Political Experience: Rhode Island House of Representatives ; Woonsocket City Council Vice President ; former chairman of Woonsocket Planning Board; ran for U.S. House Rhode Island's 1st District to replace Patrick J. Kennedy; past chair of House Commission to Study Municipal Financial Integrity and member of House Judiciary Committee.
