In February 2025, House Republican leaders appointed him chairman of the Education Committee's Subcommittee on Career and Technical Education, tasking him with examining ways to make vocational education more available across Pennsylvania.

In July 2025, Schlegel was appointed to the Governor's Advisory Committee for Alzheimer's, Dementia and Related Disorders, which supports the new Office of ADRD within the Pennsylvania Department of Aging to address growing health challenges in the state.
